Revitalizing Our Theatre

Picture
In July of 2020, the historical John A. Lau Saloon next to Thunder Bay Theatre caught fire and devastated both buildings.

As you are probably aware, the John A. Lau building is a complete loss, but fire fighters were able to protect and save the Thunder Bay Theatre building.

THE BUILDING: Luckily none of the building has fire damage, except for the roof. However there was significant water damage throughout much of the building and the apartments above. Currently, our lobby, bathrooms, and parts of upstairs are completely gutted down to studs.

We are working with a local contractor to estimate a final cost to fix the damage, as well as revitalize areas of the building that are in bad shape, such as our roof. Once we have a final number we will know how much money we need to raise (after insurance funds are used) to cover the costs. The TBT Board of Directors are working to secure grant funding and private donations in addition to the insurance funds in order to fully restore this historic piece of downtown Alpena.
